General rules to wear a belt- for every body shape

A belt can be a very useful tool to put your advantages in focus, even use it an optical, almost illusion tool in styling, but is can also easily emphasize or even distort your look.

A belt is a horizontal line on your body and depending of the width and colour of the belt, compared to the clothes you wear, it effects your look.

• Never put a horizontal line on your widest body part you (eg. hip) as it will make it more wider
• Eyes look for horizontal lines first, as it gives us balance. So put horizontals on areas you want to emphasize.
• Colours are very important, as the contrast compared to each other are leading our eyes. 
  
  a.) if you use belts which are close to the garments under, they will shape more softer, and discreet
  b.) if you use contrasting belts it will lead eyes instantly and shape more eye-catching
• If you have a large bust, avoid wide waist belts or you’ll end up over accentuating both areas.
• If you are short waisted it’s best to opt for a slim belt more tot he hip to elongate you. If you do want to wear it on your waist, wear the belt in angle, to create a V shape to have a longer upper part.
• If you are long in the torso, wide belts on the waist will be your best friend
• If you are tall chosse contrasting belt colours compared to your garments to cut your figure horizontally
• If you are petit choose belts which have same or similar colur than the garments you wearing on
• If you have a large tummy, avoid wrapping a belt across it, it will only draw more attention to the area.
•  If wearing a belt with trousers, try to match the width of your belt with the loops. Loose or folded over belts can look messy and unfinished.

Choose your belt style wisely. You can either contrast your belt or blend it into your outfit. Remember that if a belt is on show, it is an accessory. So while plain and blending is perfectly fine, know that if you choose a loud, bright or blingy style – it is made to stand out and will accentuate the area over where it sits.
